Attack group admits campaign violation

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — A group involved in sending negative campaign mailers attacking a Democratic Garfield County commissioner candidate in last fall’s election admitted Wednesday it violated campaign finance laws.

An administrative law judge is considering the penalty after a hearing in Denver.

If assessed the full amount, Aurora-based Colorado League of Taxpayers, a group that supports conservative candidates, would have to pay $9,750 in penalties, or $50 every day since the infraction, but judges rarely impose the full amount.
