“Government can only be accountable if taxpayers can see what they are buying and how much they are paying for it.”

Fort Collins Council candidate Andrew Boucher comes under fire

By Rebecca Boyle, Fort Collins Now,

A progressive watchdog group, Colorado Ethics Watch, on Tuesday accused Fort Collins City Council candidate and former FC Now columnist Andrew Boucher of violating city election law.

At issue was a fundraising letter Boucher sent a list of supporters Feb. 18 that asked for donations for his own campaign and that of Aislinn Kottwitz, who is running for an open seat in District 3.

Boucher is running against incumbent Mayor Pro Tem Kelly Ohlson in District 5.

Luis Toro, senior counsel for the ethics group, said Boucher violated Fort Collins’ city code.

“That mailing was effectively a contribution to Ms. Kottwitz’s campaign,” he said in a statement.

Boucher said he was not a candidate at the time of the mailing, although he officially became one seven days later.

“I sent a letter stating that I was planning to run, but I hadn’t filed any of the paperwork, and as such I wasn’t expending any campaign resources,” he said.

Stay tuned for more updates.
