Colorado officials deny purging voter rolls

By Associated Press, The Summit Daily News,
November 19, 2008
DENVER — Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman denies in court documents that his office improperly purged anyone from voter registration rolls.

Watchdog groups including Common Cause of Colorado filed a lawsuit in U.S.
District Court in October, saying Coffman’s office improperly removed thousands of people from voter rolls within 90 days of an election in violation of the National Voter Registration Act.

State Attorney General John Suthers argues in court documents filed Monday that the act allows corrections to voter rolls within that time frame, such as removing voters who have died.

Both sides reached an agreement that allowed the voters in question to cast provisional ballots this November, but the lawsuit is still proceeding. For the full story, please visit http://www.summitdaily.com/article/20081118/NEWS/811189949/1002/NONE
