Chowdhury Resigns From Jeffco School Board

August 20, 2008

Jefferson County School Board member Vince Chowdhury has announced his resignation, effective Thursday, August 21. On July 9, Ethics Watch called for Chowdhury to resign after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a child. On August 12, Chowdhury lost the Democratic primary in State House District 22 to Camille Ryckman.

Chantell Taylor, director of Ethics Watch, released the following statement in response:

“We applaud Mr. Chowdhury for heeding the call of the Jefferson County school board, Ethics Watch and others by resigning from his public position.  In doing so, he has acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and his resulting inability to remain an effective school board member in Jefferson County.  His reprehensible acts not only violated the trust of his family but also the Jefferson County students and their families who he was elected to serve.  Coloradoans expect more from their public officials, particularly those who act on behalf of children.”
