Ethics Watch Complaint Forces Geddes Campaign To Admit Violations, Pay Fine

August 11, 2008

In response to a complaint filed by Colorado Ethics Watch, an administrative law judge ruled last week that the campaign committee for Dr. Jim Geddes, candidate for University of Colorado Regent, District 6 in the 2008 general election, is guilty of campaign finance violations and ordered Dr. Geddes’ campaign committee to pay $4000 in fines.

Chantell Taylor, director of Ethics Watch, released the following statement in response:

“Once again, Ethics Watch’s complaint has brought transparency and accountability to the political process in Colorado. Dr. Geddes conceded that his committee violated campaign finance laws by failing to file contribution and expenditure reports and has been ordered to pay the full fine of $4000. Now Dr. Geddes has filed the requisite disclosures and has been held accountable for shirking the law. Ethics Watch will continue to protect Coloradans’ interests by researching, identifying and exposing candidates and public officials who violate the law.”
