LifeBridge project hits protest, this time in Firestone

A church's retail and commercial development is facing another skeptical community and a possible public vote.

Firestone Town Clerk Judy Hegwood has certified two petitions that seek to force the town Board of Trustees to reconsider its decision to annex LifeBridge Christian Church's Union project. Trustees must now decide whether to vote once again on the Union annexation or put the issue on the fall ballot.

The 340-acre parcel would include 142 acres of homes, 57 acres for religious or civic use and a 150,000-square-foot sports arena.

Trustees voted May 8 for the annexation of the Union project into Firestone. It originally was annexed by Longmont, but controversy prompted church officials to go to Firestone with their plans.
