Group fights ruling on campaign work

A government watchdog group filed an appeal Wednesday challenging a judge's decision that allows city staff to perform campaign work at taxpayer expense.

Colorado Ethics Watch is asking the Colorado Court of Appeals to reverse a lower court's ruling that the city of Broomfield's staff did not violate state campaign laws when it prepared answers to a questionnaire for a mayoral candidate.

Colorado fair-campaign laws prohibit government entities from using paid staff time to campaign for candidates and ballot initiatives.
