Ads blast Democrats
Colorado Democrats claim ads paid for by a political action group consist of flat out lies. Democrats are asking the Denver District Attorney's Office to investigate possible criminal charges for false campaign ads.
One southern Colorado lawmaker is considering similar action. "You know," said State Representative Buffie McFadyen, "I'm at a point where I'm considering asking to have charges against Trailhead for basically lying in this case; being untruthful.
The advertisements on radio and Cable TV are paid for by the Trailhead Group, backed by Republicans, though some, including Pete Coors are distancing themselves from the campaign.
McFadyen says what the Republicans really want is three more seats in the State Capitol. "It's about control of the state legislature and it's a win at all cost mentality."
Alan Philp, from the Trailhead Group responded by email to questions from News First. "Our ad is factually sound and it's a shame Buffie McFadyen feels compelled to run away from her record. The future of Colorado is at stake this November. Trailhead is mounting as vigorous a counteroffensive to well-funded Democrat groups as we can. In 2004, four very wealthy Democrats spent millions financing a Democrat take-over of the Legislature in Colorado. Trailhead and its partner groups are a defensive mechanism aiming to counter these extremely well-funded Democrat groups. Our ad highlights her (McFadyen's) record of using her public office to profit herself. Instead of contributing to the community, she too often takes from it. Democrat or Republican, southern Colorado deserves better representation than they get from Buffie McFadyen."
