CCEG Files Open Records Requests with Three Agencies Seeking Homeland Security Spending Documents
Colorado Citizens for Ethics in Government (CCEG) today filed open records requests with the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), the Division of Emergency Management (DEM), and Department of Public Safety (CDPS) seeking copies of performance reports and audits regarding the state government’s use, spending, and/or allocation of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
According to a report by the Rocky Mountain News, this year the state was forced to repay the federal government $1.5 million in misspent funds and the federal government cut Colorado's homeland security funding by 40 percent. CCEG’s goal is to increase public scrutiny about how the government spends homeland security funds and to hold government officials accountable for any failure to properly allocate those funds to protecting Coloradans from security threats.
