State on a mission to remove ineligible voters

Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler is proceeding with plans to expunge ineligible voters from voter rolls by seeking to cross-check a list of nearly 5,000 names using a federal government database reserved for federal and state public-assistance agencies.

The database, part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, is used to “aid benefit-granting agencies in determining an applicant’s immigration status, ensuring that only entitled applicants receive federal, state or local public benefits and licenses,” according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.
