Boulder Councilman George Karakehian voted for friend without disclosing
Boulder City Councilman George Karakehian voted for his friend John Mehaffy, who has also served as legal counsel and registered agent for many of his business ventures, to be reappointed to the Boulder Downtown Business Improvement District board without disclosing their relationship.
City Attorney Tom Carr said the vote does not represent a conflict of interest because neither man stood to benefit financially from the appointment, but advocates for government transparency said not disclosing such relationships can create an impression of cronyism.
