ALJ Fines Larimer GOP $1500 on Ethics Watch Complaint

Administrative Law Judge Matthew E. Norwood has ordered the Larimer County Republican Party (LCRP) to pay a fine of $1,500 in a case filed by Ethics Watch in August. Ethics Watch alleged that the LCRP failed to itemize contributions and provide contributor information in reports it filed in March 2011 after it was discovered that the LCRP had missed several reports during 2010. Corrected reports were filed in July 2011. The Secretary of State’s office imposed, and later reduced, fines for the delinquent filings. Those fines and the Secretary’s waiver decision were not an issue in Ethics Watch’s complaint.

“We felt it was important to send the message that a committee cannot get off scot-free when it files incomplete reports just as a way to stop the clock on delinquent filings,” said Luis Toro, Director of Ethics Watch. The LCRP agreed to pay a fine of $1500, making a November hearing on the complaint unnecessary.
