Communications Associate
We are seeking a Communications Associate to assist in running our creative, fast- paced communications office. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and have track record of producing diligently edited and well written material. He or she will be able to juggle multiple priorities and approach all tasks with a positive attitude. This position is a great opportunity to engage with a broad range of media outlets to help fight corruption in Washington.
Essential Job Functions:
- Draft written products, including press releases, media advisories, monthly newsletters and blog posts.
- Work closely with the Communications and New Media Directors to produce daily content updates on CREW’s websites.
- Create and maintain targeted press lists for national, local and trade-level press outreach.
- Oversee contact database and logistics for press release distribution and press events.
- Screen press inquiries and media requests.
- Track, compile and distribute daily press clips and other media mentions.
- Proofread written materials.
- Create and distribute constituent outreach via mass mailing system, and communicate via social media platforms.
- Answering CREW’s phone lines sharing responsibility with the Staff Assistant.
- Assisting with administrative needs of the Executive Director.
- Performing additional research and administrative tasks, as needed.
- A sense of humor.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 2 years of experience in communications field.
- Experience working within media contact database, website content and mass mailing management systems.
- Basic knowledge of html coding.
- Knowledgeable in search engine optimization and social media best practices.
- Experience in photo/graphics editing a plus.
- Experience in trend analytics a plus.

Undergraduate Interns
CREW is seeking unpaid undergraduate interns. Interns will assist with research and operations alongside CREW’s research team, including conducting in-depth investigations into government corruption, reviewing and analyzing public documents, drafting content for reports and blogs, following up on investigative tips, and generating innovative project ideas and report proposals. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, enthusiastic, resourceful, detail-oriented, and interested in legal or ethics issues.
CREW's spring internship positions have been filled; we are currently accepting applications for summer 2012.

Legal Interns
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is seeking unpaid legal interns. Responsibilities include legal and related research, analyzing emerging issues, and assisting in the preparation of complaints, reports and other written products. Interested applicants must have completed at least one year of law school and must possess strong written and analytical skills. The legal intern position offers law students an opportunity to participate in a current hot-button issue of great public importance. We are currently accepting applicants for summer 2012.

New Media Interns
CREW seeks undergraduate or graduate communication/design students to serve as unpaid interns with an expanding and exciting New Media Department. Interns will assist CREW's New Media Director and communications team with online and media operations - including moderating social media sites, designing info-graphics, creating images, analyzing statistics, and external communications. Responsibilities will also include working with press, monitoring press coverage, and building press lists.
Requested Skills
- Experience with Html, various CMS, Photoshop, Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps, print and video production, a/v editing, layout, print, online design, CSS, and email analytics/trend analysis
- Strong reading comprehension and writing skills
- Previous media or web administration experience
- Demonstrated interest in US politics and government
Additional Qualifications
- Ideal candidates will be creative, have a strong work ethic, be willing to learn, and have a desire to create content that both looks good and reinforces our message
- Ideal candidates should also be personable and have a good sense of humor
